Referendum
School districts rely on local property taxes to fund transportation and facility expenses. Because of the laws that have been passed to cut education funding from the State, Hamilton Southeastern Schools (HSE) faces an estimated ongoing operational loss of $4.5 million annually directly due to the state's new property tax reform law, Senate Enrolled Act 1 (SEA 1).
Due to SEA 1, it will be difficult for HSE to maintain future programs, class sizes, or staffing levels without voter approval for a referendum to counteract the state’s restrictive funding measures.
I fully support the referendum.
Some clarifying points about the referendum:
The 2026 referendum will replace the 2023 referendum. You will not be paying the 2023 referendum plus the 2026 referendum.
